Using Data to Create a Sense of Place, Monday 31 March 2025, 10.00-16.00, Danum Gallery, Doncaster

Applications are now open to join this fascinating session exploring how you can use data to help you build a rich story about the places that you work in, and the communities you work with.
This practical workshop is designed to help you get the most out of data to support your planning. By the end of the day, you will be able to access data that is relevant to your local area and have the confidence to use it to build a profile that can inform partnerships, strengthen advocacy and support grant applications.
We will be looking at exploring tools and data sets including:
- Arts Council England’s new Culture and Place Data Explorer
- 2011 Census
- Nomis – a great tool to access, analyse and compare data specific to your local area
- Wellbeing dashboards
The session is led by Dr Liz Hind from the Women’s Budget Group. Liz trains organisations on how to think about data in a way that illuminates people and places. She is currently working with the ONS on new developments in statistics, particularly in relation to unpaid carers. She will be supported by a case study from colleagues at our Doncaster venue.
No previous experience of using data is necessary. This is an entry level workshop that will be delivered by that very rare person – an expert who can explain complicated information in a simple and accessible manner. We encourage delegates to come along with a laptop and a sense of discovery.
Please apply using this link.
The workshop is open to eligible museums in the MD North region, but priority will be given to non NPOs. Places will be limited and we reserve the right to restrict places to one per organisation.
This workshop is the first in our placemaking programme being rolled out in 2025-26.
