Getting Your House In Order – Loans In & Out

This session will explore the Spectrum 5.1 procedures for borrowing and lending objects: Loans in and Loans out. We will review the policy considerations, requirements and guidance for both procedures, discussing how this is approached by attendees.

Loans in – managing objects you borrow for a fixed period of time and for a specific purpose.

Loans out – assessing requests for you to lend your objects and managing the lending process until loans are returned to you.

The session will also briefly cover the requirements for the related Spectrum procedure, Object exit.

The host will present information and there will be opportunities to work in break out rooms in smaller groups. There will be time to discuss with colleagues, ask questions throughout and submit questions in advance.

There are 22 places on this workshop. Places are available for museums in the north of England, priority will be given to those which are not regularly funded by Arts Council England or central government. If there are more than two delegates from a single museum booked on a workshop we reserve the right to amend delegate lists to allow museums from the waiting list to participate.

By the end of the session, attendees will:

·      Understand the role of the Spectrum standard, and its supporting guidance, in relation to museum Accreditation.

·      Understand policy considerations for borrowing and lending.

·      Understand the Spectrum requirements for Loans in and Loans out.

·      Understand the Spectrum requirements for Object exit.

·      Know where to find more information and guidance.

This session is suitable for trustees, managers, staff and volunteers, particularly those new to the loans procedures.
